A.R CASH: The Award-Winning Tribute to Johnny & June

Recently named International Tribute Artist of the Year at the Josie Music Awards in Nashville, Aaron Prociuk is the real deal when it comes to performing a tribute to Johnny Cash. Growing up in the countryside of East St. Paul, Manitoba, Canada and inspired by the movie “Walk The Line”, Aaron taught himself guitar at the age of 15. While mastering the lead work of Cash's original guitarist Luther Perkins, he discovered a knack for singing like Cash as well. A.R Cash began in 2013 as a stylistically authentic tribute to Johnny Cash of the 1950's & 1960's. With the addition of acclaimed country songstress Ashley Robertson to pay tribute to June Carter Cash they charm audiences with solid, playful performances sharing stories about Johnny & June. Backed by the best musicians in the business they have performed at prestigious venues such as the Country Music Hall of Fame, The Red River Exhibition, The Manitoba Sunflower Festival, The Painted Hand Event Centre, The Storyteller's Museum, 3rd & Lindsley Nashville and many more receiving rave reviews wherever they go. Not only does Aaron Prociuk (aka AR Cash) have the high hair, gravelly voice, and swagger of Johnny Cash, but he has something else… a finely tuned sense of the “Man in Black” and a wide-ranging knowledge of the dates and events that formed the famous singer-songwriter’s life and career. Ms. Robertson also shone in her performance as June Carter, while displaying intricate knowledge of this historical figure.”

A.R Cash played a sold out concert when they took to the stage in Preeceville on October 12. "I think the concert went really well," said Stacey Strykowski, organizer. "I’ve gotten lots of compliments on the show and how nice it was to have such an event right in our community. I was overwhelmed with all the support. We had people from all ages there. It was nice to have such a diverse audience. We weren’t sure we could comfortably fit over 400 people in the hall but I think it worked out nicely. We will certainly look at bringing them back.”

The Johnny Cash tribute concert fronted by Aaron Prociuk attracted a jam-packed crowd to Rockglen’s Dreamland Theatre. With his smooth baritone, Prociuk presented a diverse repertoire from the legendary Cash’s songbook including his biggest hits like “Ring of Fire”, “Jackson” and “Folsom Prison Blues”. Smiles were plentiful and spirits high as people left the theatre after a standing ovation and encore ending.”

Prociuk nods to his band, steps up to the mic and with a hearty "I hear the train a comin..." launches into Folsom Prison Blues. For the next two hours, the audience hoots, hollers and two-steps along to the songbook of John R. Cash. Prociuk, a natural baritone doesn't just sound the part, he spends a good chunk of time in front of the mirror every morning, styling his hair into a full-on pompadour. "A lot of times people come up to me after the show or between sets and say I look too young to be singing this kind of stuff," says Prociuk. "But to be completely honest I don't care for the music they play on the radio today."”

The 2018 Manitoba Sunflower Festival wrapped up yesterday at the Altona Park. Alex Loewen, Entertainment Committee Chair, noted tribute artist A.R. Cash headlined Saturday night. "A.R. Cash won 'International Tribute Artist of The Year Award' in Nashville, so they came highly acclaimed," said Loewen. Organizing Committee member Eric Hildebrand added, "Our attendance was excellent, and perhaps the best attended festival since our 50th anniversary," he estimates 2,000 people were at the park on Saturday evening.”
